Motion Sensitive Gaming Phone Unveiled by NTT DoCoMo

Taking a cue from the popularity of the Nintendo Wii, Japan’s NTT DoCoMo has come out with a new mobile phone equipped with a motion sensor that will allow users to play games, which are based on the technology similar to Nintendo’s next-gen console. The D904i will let mobile gamers swing the handset like a tennis racket or wield it like sword to control game play instead of punching on the keypad.

Takeshi Natsuno, Senior VP, NTT DoCoMo quoted, “Traditionally in trains youngsters would be staring down at their phones playing games but that is going to change considerably. DoCoMo is going to take the offensive. We are going to offer various things that cannot be imitated by the other operators.”

The D904i has been created by Mitsubishi Electric and will be available in Japan from May 2007. NTT DoCoMo has previously released mobile phones that feature touch-sensitive screens and give off a soothing scent.

However, when the Wii was released last year, there were many accidents that caused injury to life and also destroyed property. And the DoCoMo motion sensitive gaming phone would be used by people in public places, so it remains to be seen if they come out with proper safety precautions for the phone.
