Xbox 360 to have internal HD-DVD

Toshiba Microsoft

The hope of Microsoft releasing an Xbox 360 with an internal HD-DVD drive seems to be very strongly felt by Mark Whittard who is the general manager of Toshiba’s Information Systems Division, Australian Branch.

He said, “I would imagine that there are plans in place to put an HD DVD drive internally in future revisions of the product. They’re not speaking about it publicly at the moment but I would expect them to do that and fairly soon.”

Microsoft has formerly divulged that it plans to offer the HD-DVD as an add-on peripheral this Christmas. But it has snubbed suggestions that it will modify the Xbox 360 hardware as it will confound the market. Toshiba is closely involved in the HD-DVD project which is a rival to Sony’s Blu-ray technology.

Whittard also stated, “One looming potential war extending from this is the Xbox versus PlayStation. The Xbox is coming out with a HD DVD player towards the end of this year. With Microsoft’s marketing engine behind HD DVD, who knows what will happen. I would imagine that there are plans in place to put an HD DVD drive internally in future revisions of the product. They’re not speaking about it publicly at the moment but I would expect them to do that and fairly soon.”

Lets see if Santa Claus brings the Xbox 360 embedded with a HD-DVD drive for Microsoft’s gaming console enthusiasts.
