Mario Kart 9, the next instalment to the tremendously popular racing game franchise, is in ‘active development’ according to a new report. What’s more, there’s also the mention of a ‘new twist’ to the game, which hasn’t been detailed, unfortunately.
This news comes from industry analyst Serkan Toto who revealed this info in an article on 2022 gaming predictions for Gamesindustry.biz. He has also said that Mario Kart 9 will be officially unveiled this year itself, although nothing about its possible release date has been mentioned.
Apart from that, Toto has talked about Nintendo’s mobile plans. 2019’s Mario Kart Tour was the last mobile game released by the company but it seems another big franchise from the company will be making the mobile jump in 2022. There’s no word on what that franchise will be.
Coming back to Mario Kart 9, it should arrive for the Nintendo Switch but if it takes time to get released, who knows, it might just turn out to be a launch game for Nintendo’s next big console. The last main game from the series was Mario Kart 8, which was made available for the Wii U. An enhanced version of the same game arrived later on the Switch as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Not only did it turn out to be the best-selling Wii U game, but it also grabbed the same title after its Switch release. With the sales of both versions combined, Mario Kart 8 has sold more than 47 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling racing game, and one of the best-selling video games of all time.
Details are incredibly scarce about Mario Kart 9 at the moment but we’ll definitely have more on it once newer details are out.
