The Witcher Season 3 Production Commences, Plot Summary Revealed

The Witcher Season 3

The team behind The Witcher series has announced that production for its third season is officially underway. Along with this revelation, they have also disclosed the plot summary for Season 3 of the much-loved Netflix series.

“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her,” reads the summary, “Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.”

The plot summary mentions that with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer is able to lead them into the protected fortress of Aretuza.  It’s there that they “discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery” from which they must escape.

Reports of a third season of The Witcher nearing the start of its production had surfaced as early as this January. The success of the series’ Season 2, released in mid-December 2021, had made it a no-brainer for Netflix. What’s surprising is that the writers have finished the writing job so soon.

The Witcher is based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. CD Projekt Red, having released three stunning AAA titles around the same IP, has now announced that a fourth game is officially in development. The studio will be using Unreal Engine 5 on this one, instead of its proprietary REDengine, thanks to a partnership with Epic Games. No other details about this game have been made available for the time being.

Season 3 of The Witcher will see Henry Cavill back as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allen as Princess Cirilla of Cintra, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, and Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold. It’s slated to hit Netflix in December of 2022, as of now.
