Launch of Super Mario Run for Android looming

Super Mario Run is getting ready for its launch on Android, judging by the pre-register button accompanying the game on the Google Play Store. That’s right, Android users can now sign up to get a notification as soon as the newly unveiled Nintendo offering is available in their country.

The game is downloadable for free, though there is a one-time charge of Rs 620 or $9.99 after the first few levels. Super Mario Run has been available on Apple iTunes for iPhone and iPad since mid-December. It has been released in 151 nations and regions, along with support for 10 languages including English of course.

The game has received a mixed reception from audiences – some are content with the side entertainment and 24 levels offered by it, while others feel $10 is too much for the limited number of playable courses it encompasses. Nintendo is apparently not interested in adding in-game content or any more levels to the title in the future.

The biggest downside to Super Mario Run is that it needs an active internet or Wi-Fi connection at all times. It sort of defeats the purpose of mobile gaming if your network is spotty while you’re traveling and you feel like playing on your phone, right? Nintendo supposedly incorporated the always-on requirement to discourage piracy.
