Nintendo’s Miitomo app already has 1 million users

It has taken Nintendo’s first ever smartphone app Miitomo just three days to rake up 1 million downloads. March 17 was the date on which the application was released for iOS devices in Japan, and it is still to be made available in other territories, let alone Android.

Line used to be the top instant messaging app in Japan before this, but Miitomo has now taken over that title. Nintendo announced this milestone through its Twitter account, where it also thanked its fans for supporting the app.

Miitomo is less of a game and more of a messaging app, if you’re still not aware of it. It allows you to create a Mii avatar and have it interact with the avatars of your friends in real time.

Miitomo

When Nintendo first announced that it was looking to venture into the smartphone territory, all excited fans had expected to see games coming from the Japanese firm. However, the company surprised them by coming up with an instant messaging utility.

The firm has promised now that its next smartphone outing will be a proper game that will be based on a popular character from its regular roster. We sure hope we get our first official Mario game on smarthphones soon, but who knows what Nintendo has in mind.
