Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon teaser video and website show up

A teaser video for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, supposedly the next in the franchise, has emerged along with a rudimentary website that reveals no information on the game itself. But both point to some sort of weird 80s-themed take on the island setting in the title. This has led many to believe that the entire thing is one elaborate April Fools’ Day prank.

Blood Dragon

The website has a story section which attempts to give a little insight into it all. It says the year is 2007 and it is the future. Apparently, Earth has been stretched to its limits by nuclear war and humans must search for new avenues to maintain peace. A cyborg army from the US appears to have found a solution, which happens to be a bio-weapon on a distant island. Sergeant Rex Power Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando, is sent to the island to try and make sense of it all.

The website has everything played out in the form of a cheesy 80s-style movie. And if the Konami code (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A) is entered on the site, the cursor turns into a crosshair. All the text and images on the site can be shot using the crosshair, after which a mysterious .gif image appears.

Coming to the teaser trailer, it doesn’t have much, aside from a Ubisoft logo, trippy 80s graphics, a sequence of laser pulses and Blood Dragon text. There is one thing though. If paused at 42 seconds, an ominous image (posted above) is seen. We’re not really sure what to make of it.

But as Joystiq is reporting, there has been a lot of evidence suggesting the title is legitimate and a standalone expansion to Far Cry 3, even if this reveal may seem too odd to be true. For example, it got Brazilian classification ratings for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC a while ago and there was a little bit of leaked XBLA art which matches the current reveal.

Not too long ago, a list of achievements also popped up, and the game’s lead writer Jeffrey Yohalem hinted at its existence. Then there is the fact that Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned in February this year that fans would not have to wait too long for another Far Cry.

Still, these latest reveals could be part of the publisher’s April Fools’ Day celebrations, but if they are, Ubisoft would rather have us lapping up prank details than let everybody know that we’ve been punk’d!
