Sony gamescom Highlights – Part 2: PS Plus for Vita, New PS Vita games and More

While Part 1 of our coverage of the Sony gamescom press conference had its focus on the new PS3 offerings, Part 2 is here with all the stuff that will surely have PS Vita owners excited. LittleBigPlanet creator Media Molecule has showcased a fresh IP for the handheld, while there’s also a new game under the much successful Killzone franchise.

With a trailer, Tearaway has made its debut for the Vita. This adventure game from Media Molecule is centered on a character named Iota. It features 3D graphics, but its environments have been made to look like they’ve been made from ‘paper.’ No release information is out yet.

Killzone: Mercenary is the new game from the series which would be released for the Vita in the future. It is under development from Guerrilla Games, and was described by Sony at gamescom as a first-person shooter ‘not possible on any other platform.’

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified finally got its first trailer, which we showcased in our earlier article. In addition, a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation explaining its Vita-specific controls also got unveiled at the event. The game will be out in October this year.

There was even a trailer for Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault which was announced to be coming to the Vita. This PSN title was earlier supposed to be launched only for the PS3.

As far as the new PS Plus service is concerned, Vita owners will be happy to know that benefits of the same will be coming to the handheld soon. Secondly, all subscribers will now be granted 1GB of cloud storage rather than the current 150MB. And lastly, as part of the Instant Game Collection, European Plus subscribers will be receiving a free download of none other Red Dead Redemption this September.
