Publisher and developer Atari endows Apple device owners with a dollop of nostalgia with the release of Breakout: Boost for the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch. This offering makes its way across these portable devices as the company prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The arcade classic is claimed to be revamped with better graphics as well as an engaging gameplay experience.
One among the new interesting attributes is ‘Boost Control’ that enables gamers to tweak the ball speed on the fly as well as personalize the brick hitting scenario. Increasingly high points can be garnered by faster speeds for those looking to grace leaderboards with their impressive numbers. On the other hand, the slower paced speed aids players with even amateur skill levels to clear the various stages offered in the title.
“We’ve seen great success on the iTunes App Store – first with Atari’s Greatest Hits this summer and again with the recent launch of Asteroids: Gunner, the first original version of one of our classic and world-renowned franchises available for iOS devices: iPhone, iPad and iPod touch,” commented Jim Wilson, CEO of Atari. “Today’s launch builds off of and continues that success, bringing the official version of one of the most popular game genres of all time to legions of Atari fans and iOS gamers alike.”
There are five levels to take advantage of, with more than 200 additional ones available via in-app purchases. Besides new ball and brick types, the company still retains its classic features. According to the company, special ball upgrades such as Acid, Grenade, Fire and Splitting orbs are provided to help iOS device owners smash the bricks with more force and destruction. The brick variety includes Mystery, Metal, x4 and Exploding bricks. For the competitive kind, there is Game Center and Open Feint integration, which can be accessed via their tablets or handsets.
