DC Comics Allies with PSN Digital Comics, comiXology

DC Comics has dished out well-known titles such as Batman, Superman, Fables and Green Lantern. The company has now joined forces with comiXology and PSN for separate digital comics distribution deals. Furthermore, owners of the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch can now avail of the DC Comics App.

“At DC Comics, it has been a top priority that DC forges a meaningful, forward-looking digital strategy. As both a comic book creator and Co-Publisher, it was incredibly important that our plan includes not only creator incentive payments, but also an innovative component that supports comic shop owners. We see digital as an opportunity to grow our entire business,” stated Jim Lee, Co-Publisher, DC Comics.

The launch offerings with partners PSN and comiXology comprise of retro names plucked from DC Comics, WildStorm and Vertigo. These include Batman: Hush, Fables: Legends in Exiles, Green Lantern: Rebirth and Planetary: All Over the World besides other titles. At launch, comic book enthusiasts can take advantage of many free titles which include the first installment of the ZUDA series Bayou as well as a few stories from Batman: Black & White.

“Once readers download an issue, they will be able to read it on all DC Comics-branded Comics by comiXology-supported platforms. DC’s taking a bold approach to platform convergence,and we’re thrilled to be their solutionof choice,” explained David Steinberger, CEO of comiXology.

“With the PlayStation Network digital comics available for all PSP models, the user is able to explore a huge range of more than 1600 comics and we look forward to working with DC Comics to continue to add even more titles,” commented Susan Panico, senior director, PlayStation Network, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “PlayStation Network is the premiere entertainment destination and we are excited to provide users with exclusive content and continue to expand our growing library of comics.”

To commemorate the occasion, DC Comics provides fans with a 10-page preview of the 700th issue of Superman which can be acquired absolutely free of cost. The comiXology program is scheduled to dish out more than 100 issues for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The PlayStation program is expected to unfurl with more than 80 issues including the premier 25 issues of Superman/Batman.

The digital comics bear a price range of .99 USD (approx. Rs. 46) to 2.99 USD (approx. Rs. 139) per issue on both platforms. The Justice League: Generation Lost mini-series can also be enjoyed on all these devices the same day as the print editions release into stores. Both editions are individually priced at 2.99 USD.
