Prey from 3D Realms coming to iPhone

Prey

The 2006 3D Realms’ game Prey is apparently in the late stage of development for the iPhone. It seems the iPhone has not gotten enough FPS games over the years, because it makes for very complicated controls for movement on an iPhone. So MachineWorks Northwest is working hard to change that and by what is seen from the screenshots of the game, they look to be doing a bang-up job.

Prey tracks Tommy, an ex-Army soldier living on a Cherokee reservation, who is in search of his girlfriend Jen who has been abducted by strange aliens. He has spiritual abilities like spirit-walking in which his spirit can leave his body and walk about. He is accompanied by the spirit of his childhood pet hawk.

To control movement the iPhone game uses four ‘bars’ which you must manipulate with your thumbs and can be positioned anywhere around the screen to suit your liking. Also players can set the transparency levels for these bars so that they don’t get in the way of play. Beside these bars, are a few buttons used to change weapons, engage the enemy and to go on the spirit-walk. If Tommy dies, he goes over to the spirit world and has to shoot certain monsters before he comes to life again.

Just like the console and PC versions, the iPhone version of Prey lets players walk on walls. There are also puzzles in the game that make you think a bit before moving forward. MachineWorks seems to have done some real astonishing work with Prey so far.

Prey 3

Prey will be released for the iPhone within a couple of weeks and with all the features that it has to offer, it is definitely one for iPhone gamers to look out for, though it is very different from the usual games released for the iPhone.
