Dig Dug is the arcade game from Namco which was released in 1982, before most making up today’s generation of gamers were even born. Heck, before any of today’s generation gamers were born! Now, publisher of mobile, PC and iPhone games, Namco Networks has sent word that Dig Dug Remix is available worldwide for the iPod Touch and iPhone via the Apple App Store.
“Dig Dug fans can now play the original game they loved from the arcade as well as a supped-up version that’s packed with more pumping action and new power-ups,” commented Jonathan Kromrey, GM for Apple Games for Namco Networks. “The iPhone control schemes are easy to master and players are going to love the new challenges in the hundreds of levels of digging goodness.”
A classic version containing 256 levels from the original 1982 game, plus a Remix version are featured in Dig Dug Remix. Renowned enemies Fygar and Pooka are also featured as players dig their way out of trouble, or into it. The Remix version offers players 35 levels to get down and dirty in, and 5 bosses and 6 different power-ups. The innovative power-ups include Barrier Balloon which eliminates loosing life from a falling or “stampeding” rocks, Enhanced Shovel which allows players to dig faster, and Drill which improves the speed of digging as well as lets players dig through the firm dirt.
The game has three difficulty settings, and players have the choice of normal or free play, letting them play stages that they have already cleared earlier. In both the Remix version and classic version, the two controls modes featured are the Flick and D-pad. In the Flick mode, players move their finger across the screen to execute the digging action, and in the D-pad mode, players get an on-screen control pad.
Dig Dug Remix is available now across the world for the iPhone and iPod Touch through Apple’s App Store and can be purchased for a price of 5.99 US (approx. Rs. 295).
