The Lord of the Rings License Renewed, New LOTR Game Planned by EA

Electronic Arts (EA) has stated that they have renewed the license to launch additional games from J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic literary fiction, The Lord of the Rings series. The license has been extended till 2008 by New Line Cinema. The have also said that they will release a new LOTR title next year.

Frank Gibeau, EA’s Executive VP & GM of North American Publishing explains, “The Lord of the Rings is an unbelievable canvas to create epic games. We look forward to our next project with New Line Cinema and Tolkien Enterprises scheduled to ship in 2008.”

David Imhoff, New Line’s Senior Executive VP, Worldwide Licensing & Merchandising says, “We have a long history of making great games with EA and are thrilled to extend our longstanding relationship. We look forward to working closely with EA to create even more compelling Lord of the Rings adventures in the future.”

EA has developed games based on New Line Cinema’s theatrical productions of The Lord of the Rings since 2001. Not only that, EA has a separate agreement that allows them to create games based on the New Line Cinema films.
