John Woo Will Direct Ninja Gold Film

This week too, it seems that there are going to be a lot of announcements regarding video games that will be made in to movies. Just last week, the Sims movie was announced and this week acclaimed games designer Warren Spector has partnered with John Woo to direct a film based on his forthcoming game, Ninja Gold.

John Woo Will Direct Ninja Gold Film

Terrence Chang, who is John Woo’s production partner, has said that the game concept is based on facts that the Yakuza and the Russian mob are involved in tons of gold being stolen in South Africa. Ninja Gold revolves around the story of a member of an ancient ninja tradition dealing with contemporary warfare.

Warren Spector says, “The idea actually started with John Woo. He wanted to do something involving traditional ninjas in a modern-day setting, and the thought just resonated with me. I was intrigued with the idea of what happens when the traditional and the modern-day come into conflict. My thought from the start was to develop something that would work just as well in games as in movies, and I know John was thinking along the same lines. This was an attempt to create a concept that would work in, and be developed for, a variety of media concurrently. That’s something new for games and for movies.”

Though there are no details as to who will develop the game, it is known that the film will be a little different from the Ninja Gold game. John Woo will put the Ninja Gold film into production next as the script is still being written. There is no word as to when the film or the game will release. But the combination is a good one as Spector has worked on great games like us Ex, System Shock and Wing Commander while John Woo is one of the most successful directors the world has ever known.
