Video Games to be Made into Movies by Capcom

Buoyed by the success of the two Resident Evil movies, Capcom is now planning to make some of its major gaming titles into movies.

Street Fighter Movie

The movie rights of games like Street Fighter, Devil May Cry and Onimusha have already been sold. Not only that, it has hired a new executive who is a pro in managing gaming related movies. Germaine Gioia who was formerly at THQ, will woo big Hollywood movie studios for other Capcom titles.

Germaine Gioia says, “For the near-term, I’m going to look at the game engines that Capcom has and the capabilities internally at the studios and presumably see if there are things we can take advantage of with properties that might do well with recognizable characters or story lines associated with existing game engines. But that always doesn’t work, so it might be a while before certain licensed properties that have been developed from the ground up are out in the marketplace.”

A third film about Resident Evil will hit theaters in 2007 while the Street Fighter movie will release any time in 2008.
