The publisher has also revealed that this new difficulty setting is specially designed for gamers who miss the yesteryears classic titles that demanded more from players than modern titles. The mode will comprise tweaks and features that will not be found in normal difficulty settings. Moreover, gamers will also be forced to make crucial decisions about weapons, power, and health management.

“I’m an old school gamer. We wanted to make sure we were taking into account the play styles of gamers like me,” stated, Ken Levine, Creative Director of Irrational Games. “So we went straight to the horse’s mouth by asking them, on our website, a series of questions about how they play our games. 94.6 percent of respondents indicated that upgrade choices enhanced their BioShock gameplay experience; however, 56.8 percent indicated that being required to make permanent decisions about their character would have made the game even better.”

As Levine mentions, the decision to include this mode in the game was taken due to fan feedback. Apart from compelling gamers to make permanent choices about their characters, this difficulty setting will also set hurdles in the respawning process by sending gamers directly to a ‘Game Over’ screen if they lack the resources to be brought back to life.
