Call of Duty Franchise Exceeds 3 Billion in Worldwide Retail Sales

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sold extremely well and blisteringly fast when it was released earlier in the month, and we reported that the game had broken day one sales figures in the UK. Now Activision Blizzard has announced that the Call of Duty franchise has exceeded 3 billion US dollars in retail sales worldwide, according to the NPD Group, and internal Activision estimates.

“Call of Duty has become one of the greatest entertainment franchises of all time,” Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, stated. “If you consider the number of hours our audiences are engaged in playing Call of Duty games, it is likely to be one of the most viewed of all entertainment experiences in modern history.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 follows up the events which occur in Modern Warfare, which itself remains the top selling first person action game in history.
