MultiVersus, the crossover fighting game akin to Super Smash Bros., has already hit 10 million players worldwide. This news comes even before the launch of the free-to-play game’s full version, which has been delayed until further notice.
Tracker.gg, a website that tracks statistics for online games, is showing the player count for MultiVersus to be more than 10 million at the moment. Of course, the fact that it’s a free-to-play game definitely helps its cause, but even by those standards, that is a very big number.
Published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, MultiVersus features a variety of characters from within the Warner Bros. Discovery catalog. These include characters from Warner Bros., DC Comics, HBO, Turner Entertainment, Adult Swim, and Cartoon Network properties.
The open beta version of the game that’s live right now includes characters like Jake the Dog and Finn the Human from Adventure Time, Batman and Superman from DC Comics, Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, Shaggy Rogers from Scooby-Doo, Bugs Bunny and Taz from Looney Tunes, and more.
Morty Smith from Rick & Morty was supposed to be the next character to enter the game, however, that update has been delayed by developer Player First Games. In fact, the release of the entire first Season has been pushed ahead to a later date without providing any particular reason for the same.
MultiVersus follows the same basic gameplay concept that other such games follow. Players brawl it out on platforms set within different stages and attempt to knock their opponents outside the boundaries of the arena. You can play it in 2-vs-2, 1-vs-1, and free-for-all formats.
There’s no official word on when Season 1 of MultiVersus will be officially launched but you can still start playing the game for free on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
