Best Spiderman Game

We’re here today to countdown towards the best Spiderman game among the many which have been launched so far. Titles based on the Marvel Comics superhero have been around for decades now, with the first among them having been released back in 1982. And as time has progressed, we’ve got to see more and more amazing gaming experiences derived from the concept. Web slinging, acrobatic moves, a few stealth elements and many more such traits characterize this game, but the main flavor comes with the incorporation of the Spider-Man universe created by Stan Lee. The over the top super-villains, the breathtaking scenarios and other such factors make these games tremendously enjoyable for fans of the superhero as well as others. For this countdown, we’ve gone down memory lane, and have picked up the finest offerings to have featured the red and blue superhero in our opinions. Here’s a look at them then.

Spider-Man 3 the film, ended Sam Raimi’s trilogy of movies based on the Marvel superhero, and it simultaneously, also completed Activision’s trio of games based on those flicks. Incorporating villains like Venom, New Goblin and Sandman, this game weaves a decent story by expanding the film’s plot, but its languid combat takes a lot away from it. Although swinging through its environments is quite fun, this offering fails to impress on many counts. It was released for a large number of platforms, but its PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions are the most complete ones among the lot.

6 – Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

This one’s not a movie tie-in in any way, but an original game by Beenox, the go-to studio for developing Spider-Man titles. Its specialty is the fact that it blends four different universes from the Marvel Comics multiverse, thus pushing in four different Spider-Men, each voiced by different actors. Equipped with a superb story, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions impresses in many ways, but its partly repetitive gameplay and other features keep it from achieving greatness. Rich and varied combat is another one of its strong points though, and so is the fact that all four Spider-Men have their own different gameplay styles. Released in 2010, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions can be bought for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii and DS.

5 – The Amazing Spider-Man

2012 saw the release of a rebooted Spider-Man film, and with it came this beauty which managed to capture the film’s atmosphere superbly. Set a few months after the events of the film, this game adopts an open world approach, and lets you roam around freely in its beautifully rendered New York environments. Its combat system is pretty similar to that made famous by the Batman Arkham games, and this makes its fights extremely enjoyable. Equipped with an excellent story, The Amazing Spider-Man is available now for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, PS Vita and Wii U, along with altered versions for the Wii and the 3DS.

4 – Spider-Man 2 (2004)

With Spider-Man 2, we go back to the tie-ins with Sam Raimi’s trilogy. This 2004 gem is one of finest action-adventure titles of its generation. The game makes web slinging across its environments an extremely immersive experience. Furthermore, its rich and detailed combat system amazes with its counter and bullet time elements. Spider-Man 2 is a treat for fans of the superhero in more ways than one. Its brilliantly crafted story has some really interesting scenarios woven into it, and those who love the film it revolves around will definitely want to have more of it. It was released for a number of different platforms, but its PS2, GameCube and Xbox versions were the best among the lot.

3 – Spider-Man (2000)

This PlayStation title took everyone by storm when it hit the block back in 2000, with its sprawling levels, intense combat and superb stealth elements. Web slinging was one of the game’s aspects which gave it an appeal that’s hard to forget. Moreover, the game also allowed the character to crawl on walls and ceilings and instantly zip between certain points. Its combat was characterized mainly by its limited web-cartridge attacks which had to be used economically in order to have a chance against the game’s various super-villains. Apart from the PlayStation, it was also made available for a few other platforms.

2 – Ultimate Spider-Man

Ultimate Spider-Man has a unique graphic novel feel to it which is brought in by comic-book panels that are used to move the story forward. For its time, this game was a visually stunning experience, thanks to its cel shading that was intentionally made to simulate the appearance of a comic book. This truly spectacular offering deserves to be played by all those who call themselves fans of the superhero. An engaging story, swift gameplay, great voice acting and much more contribute towards making it an irresistible offering. It can be bought now for the GameCube, PS2, Xbox and PC.

1 – Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

Released in 2008, this beauty comes equipped with a versatile combat system, filled with acrobatics and lots and lots of web slinging. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows takes place in a lively New York rendition which contributes immensely to its overall appeal. Its PS3, PC, Xbox 360 and Wii versions house a good experience, but the PSP and PS2 editions are almost entirely different games.
