6 Games like Magicka

Our list today contains some games like Magicka for all those who’re fans of the said title and are looking for more offerings that grant identical gameplay experiences. Before going ahead with the list though, we have to admit one thing; this title from Arrowhead Game Studios is an extremely unique one to say the least. It’s a fantasy-based action-adventure, but despite the fact that it looks pretty much like an old-school role-playing game, it isn’t one in any way. It grabs its own unique elements which have give it an original appeal that has clicked among gamers from all over the world. This game features magic-based gameplay, an isometric viewpoint and cooperative multiplayer support. It is based on these elements and a few more that we’ve chosen our entries for this compilation. 1 – Diablo 3

Developed by the geniuses over at Blizzard Entertainment, this third iteration of the incredibly popular franchise has already managed to sell 15 million copies worldwide. It’s an action-RPG at heart, but is also highlighted by its hack and slash combat and its heavy focus on dungeon crawling. You are asked to choose from one of six character classes and are tasked with defeating the Lord of Terror, Diablo. The classes include barbarian, witch doctor, monk, demon hunter and wizard, with each of them having their own unique powers. Diablo 3 takes place in randomized 3D environments which are filled with loot to collect. It was first released for PC and Mac, but can now also be purchased for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Moreover, it is also being developed at the moment for the PS4.

Developed by Runic Games, Torchlight 2 is another action-RPG in our list of games similar to Magicka. Available for PC at the moment, it presents multiplayer-focused dungeon crawling which is extremely fun to indulge in with your friends. Its main aim is to move through challenging randomly generated dungeons in order to overcome numerous types of dangerous monsters and gain experience and loot. Offering four playable classes, it involves you thoroughly with its vibrant steampunk-inspired visuals as well. Torchlight 2 even features support for Steam Workshop which lets you create or download thousands of mods for it.

3 – Titan Quest

Iron Lore Entertainment came up with this gem of a title back in 2006 and took RPG fans by storm with its offerings. Equipped with a brilliant hack and slash combat model it delights you with the many possible scenarios you will come across during your fights. Titan Quest asks you to step into the shoes of a hero who’s tasked with fighting monsters in three ancient world settings including Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt and the Silk Road/Asia. One of its highlights is its support for online multiplayer which has been beautifully incorporated into it by its developers. This Magicka alternative allows 2 to 6 players to indulge in cooperative gameplay. It can be bought now for PC.

4 – Crimson Alliance

Crimson Alliance is an XBLA title which deserves to be played by all action-RPG fans out there. This co-op game can be downloaded onto your Xbox 360 systems for free, but it requires micro-transactions for you to be able to play it in a full-fledged manner. The game tells the story of a once thriving empire named Byzan which is now facing rough times due to a cruel goddess named the Soul Siren who’s ruling it with an iron fist. You can choose to be a wizard, assassin or a mercenary and embark upon the task of stopping the Soul Siren in her tracks. Crimson Alliance is an excellent and versatile game which can devour hours and hours of your time on a trot.

5 – Second Chance Heroes

Second Chance Heroes is our penultimate entry to this list of games similar to Magicka, and it has been blessed by its makers with some really astounding offerings. It’s still not available for purchase for PC, but will soon be arriving on Steam thanks to its Greenlight feature. You can buy it for your iOS devices though. It’s a co-op based action-adventure much like Arrowhead Game Studios’ offering. This quirky title asks you to collect and play as history’s greatest heroes to take on an apocalypse of the absurd. It features a strong arcade influence and offers some incredibly pleasing gameplay that you can enjoy on your iPads and iPhones right now. Like we said, you’ll even be able to grab it for PC through Steam sometime in the future.

6 – Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance

Another action-RPG to enter this list is Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance which was released way back in 2001. Based on the Forgotten Realms campaign setting of Dungeons & Dragons, it features the third edition of the DnD rule set. Apart from being an excellent role-playing game, it’s also a great hack and slash title which you can treat yourselves to. And its support for cooperative gameplay makes it an all the more awesome game to jump into. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is a truly beautiful game not only because of its utterly enjoyable gameplay but also due its much revered visual appeal. Developed by Snowblind Studios for the PS2 and the Xbox, it was also ported to the GameCube by High Voltage Software.
