Top Video Game Offices in India – Part 1

India is often touted to be a “rich country with poor people”. There have been several myths connected to this subcontinent. Ironically people elsewhere very often feel that this country is yet ruled by the age-old Maharajas and has elephants as its key mode of transport. However, the truth is that India has undoubtedly progressed by leaps and bounds in various spheres, including IT, research and of course gaming.

Though still nascent, most of the video gaming companies have caught the attention of many. India may not have many game developers who make AAA games, but that does not mean that Indian game developers have never worked on any blockbuster games.

After the BPO, LPO and the KPO rage, a new wave of employment opportunity is gripping India. It is called as GDO (game development outsourcing). Most of the gaming companies are in one way or the other, involved in GDO. It has given Indian professionals a chance to pursue their dreams and literally leap into the future.

People who work in Zapak are a lucky bunch. Their office is situated right on top of a mall. What’s more they also share their office with an FM radio station. One thing we liked about Zapak’s office is the walls, which were adorned with gaming characters, right from the conference room to the cafeteria. Zapak also has this extremely interesting “chamber” which is meant to emit all the rage and anger that the employees may experience. You can abuse, swear and get away with anything whatsoever in this “chamber”.

When you think of an Indian gaming company, the first name that comes to your mind is Indiagames. As it is one of the most well known game companies in India, we expected it to be one of the best gaming offices. However, it turned out to be quite subtle compared to other gaming offices we saw in India. The Indiagames’ office was something reminiscent of an ITES workplace, but with touches of gaming almost everywhere.
