A post on the PlayStation blog has revealed that the PS3 exclusive Gran Turismo 5 is to receive a huge free update alongside a DLC and a price drop in the ”˜next few weeks.’ Said to be the ”˜biggest’ free update for the game yet, this download will add new features and more functionalities to the racing simulator which was released in November last year.

Prior to this, all in-game cars did not contain cockpit views, but this update will allow gamers to drive with interior views for every available vehicle. Moreover, they shall also receive access to the 2011 season versions of the 11 NASCAR race cars. ”˜Greatly’ reduced load times too are apparently on offer with this update alongside quicker menu response times, and adjustable opponent AI in Arcade Mode.
Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital and creator of the Gran Turismo franchise, is quoted to have said, “The coming Gran Turismo 5 Spec 2 update is an update that contains the feedback from the users playing GT5 online every day. We have added cars such as the newest NASCAR race cars, but many of the updates are those that improve usability and expand the field of game play. I believed from the initial release of Gran Turismo 5 that it would be the users that would make the game grow thereafter, and we added things like interior views for the standard models because there was a lot of request for it from our users.”
Through the update, players would be able to save their progress during lengthy racing events so they can come back and finish later. Furthermore, they will also be allowed to adjust weather conditions for races using a slider function that goes from mild to severe. A new upgrade in the Photo Mode will let gamers take pictures with their personalized driver avatars as well as customizable racing suits and helmets.
Fresh customizations shall also be added to the online feature of the game. These would award bonus incentives to those who play on a consistent basis. Moreover, Sony has announced plans to launch a new DLC for Gran Turismo 5 in the coming weeks which would include new vehicles, tracks some ”˜additional surprises.’
Along with the game update and the DLC, Gran Turismo 5 is also set to get a price cut taking its cost down to 39.99 USD (approx Rs. 1,973).
