THQ, Twentieth Century Fox release Rio video game

Rio – The Movie has garnered quite a lot of hype when it released across the silver screen some time back. Now inspired by this hit movie, Twentieth Century Fox and THQ join forces to bring forth Rio video game. Already available in stores, this offering is packed with all the elements and grandeur of the movie as well as loads of music, color, fun and adventure.

The PS3 and Wii versions of Rio enables up to four players to enjoy 40 mini-games. They can take on the role of six familiar characters plucked right out of the movie. These include the likes of Blu, Pedro, Jewel, Nico, Eva and Raphael. There are three additional exclusive mini-games for Xbox 360 owners. They must traverse through Rio and race to the Carnival ceremony in five unique modes. The game also offers quick and seamless ‘jump in, jump out’ gameplay.

“Rio is such a fun movie that we wanted to bring a creative, imaginative approach to making a movie-based game, one that can be enjoyed by players of every age and skill level,” explained Martin Good, THQ’s Executive Vice President of Kids, Family and Casual Games. “The colours, the music and great humour of Rio – The Movie inspired us to create a really unique game experience.”

“We know that once audiences see Rio – The Movie they’re going to want to extend the adventure and fun outside of the movie theatre, and this game is the kind of exciting entertainment experience that is sure to deliver,” revealed Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President, Global New Media, Fox Consumer Products.

Besides catering to gaming console owners, Rio also flied onto the Nintendo DS portable device. This version features a totally different gameplay experience by providing rhythm-based adventure. Taking on the role of the main character Blu, they are provided with 20 levels that are strewn across seven awe-inspiring locations. During their exciting journey, they can groove to hip hop beats and discover Latin through the use of the stylus. There are four fun mini-games which let gamers mingle around with other well-known characters such as Jewel and Luis.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Rio can be picked up for a price of 34.99 GBP (approx. Rs. 2,530) each while the Wii and DS versions are available for 29.99 GBP (approx. Rs. 2,169) and 24.99 GBP (approx. Rs. 1,807) respectively.
