The voyage which sailed off the coast in 1987 has finally reached the Wii after extending optimum gratification for players on several other platforms. Announced earlier this year, 2K Games has revealed that Sid Meier’s Pirates! is now available for Wii gamers. Allowing players to step into the boots of a ship’s captain, the title transports them into the 17th century Caribbean islands.
Armed with traditional weapons such as a ship’s cannon and sword’s blade, gamers will have to fight with rivals on their quest to discover the hidden treasure on the island. Featuring action-packed naval battles, the game requires players to scheme against enemies to capture or sink their ship. As gamers land onto the island, they will have to plunder colonies, engage in trade and set out on secret missions. They can also duel with blades of steel and pistols while capturing cities and taking the governor’s daughter to the ball.
“Spilling over with swashbuckling pirate exploration, Sid Meier’s Pirates! is one of those rare games that is fun for both fans of the original and younger gamers who are new to the series,” explained Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K.
The game boasts of 27 fully customizable vessels and classic mini-games including Sword Fighting, Ship Combat and Dancing. The title also encloses two new mini-games namely Bombardment and Lock Picking which are compatible with the Wii controls. Unfurling an open-ended campaign, it enables players to experience the life of a pirate as they try to defeat the evil Marquis de la Montalban.
The game was originally developed by Firaxis Games and has been adapted by 2K China and Virtuous for the Wii. Sid Meier’s Pirates! can now be purchased from Nintendo for a price of 39.99 USD (approx. Rs. 1,785).
