Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake made official by Ubisoft

Prince of Persia Remake

After various leaks, Ubisoft finally made the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake official during Thursday’s Ubisoft Forward event. It’s being referred to by the company as its first “fully-fledged” remake. This version will be released for the PS4, the Xbox One and PC on January 21. Just in case you’re wondering about its next-gen compatibility, Ubisoft has confirmed that it will be backwards compatible with the PS5 and the Xbox Series S and X consoles.

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake runs on the Anvil engine that’s used for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed games. It’s been under development at the company’s Mumbai and Pune studios for two years now. Apart from a huge visual overhaul, the developers are also promising new assets, a new camera and fresh controls for its combat system. New motion capture and voice recordings have also taken place apparently, with the original actors, Yuri Lowenthal and Supinder Wraich having been recast as Prince and Farah, respectively.

“Relive the Prince’s journey for redemption after unwittingly releasing the Sands of Time on the Sultan’s Kingdom. As with the original, players will embody the heroic Prince alongside the daughter of the Maharaja, Princess Farah, as they navigate the palace, battle sword-wielding enemies, maneuver trap-filled rooms and ultimately confront the evil Vizier, who controls the Sands of Time. Players continue to progress as they combat enemies and master the art of parkour. Yuri Lowenthal returns, reprising his role as the Prince’s original voice and motion capture actor and players will be introduced to actress Supinder Wraich, who now plays the role of Farah,” reads the official blurb of the game.

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake will soon be made available for pre-order and those who book their copies beforehand will be provided with the original Prince outfit, his original weapons set and a special filter that will change the game’s graphics back to their classic look.
