Assassin’s Creed may not make its 2017 release timeline

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has famously skipped coming out with a game this year, and it looks like the under-development game which was supposed to be out in 2017 may not be launched next year after all. This comes from an interview in which Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot has hinted at such a possibility.

The Assassin’s Creed series has been criticized a lot over the last few years for being repetitive with its gameplay. Keeping this in mind perhaps, Ubisoft decided to take a year off and focus on evolving the series further. It was widely believed after this that the new game will arrive in 2017.

However, in an interview with GameSpot, Ubisoft’s Guillemot has hinted otherwise. When asked about the possible timeline for the release of the fresh Assassin’s Creed title, he said, ‘It will be back when it’s ready. That’s when we feel we have something there.’

He also went on to say that the makers will ‘take all the time it takes to make the experience fantastic.’ Business-wise, Ubisoft can afford doing this because it has other IPs like Watch Dogs and Far Cry that will keep the money flowing in the meantime.

The latest main game from the franchise was Assassin’s Creed Syndicate which was launched in December 2014 for the PS4, the Xbox One and PC. Set in 1868 Victorian era London, it featured two protagonists rather than one.

Despite Ubisoft having hinted at a 2018 release for the new Assassin’s Creed game, it still hasn’t been confirmed yet. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
