Two separate Assassin’s Creed games planned this year for both console generations

It’s that time of the year when leaks and rumors of annual releases start popping up before we finally get a full picture when the publishers think it’s about time, and with Assassin’s Creed, it’s the former phase that’s on right now. We’re hearing about not one, but two big releases this year, with one – titled Assassin’s Creed: Unity – meant for the PS4 and the Xbox 360 and the other – codenamed Comet – that’s arriving for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. While both will most probably land on PC too, nothing about a Wii U version can be said as of now.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be set in eighteenth century Paris which is the period of the bloody French Revolution. Kotaku has outed this information, and has also released a few screenshots of what appears to be a very early build of the game. According to the site, the new assassin is named Arno. Assassin’s Creed: Unity is also being said to feature refreshed parkour mechanics. On the other hand, there’s the PS3 and Xbox 360 game that’s codenamed Comet, but there’s not much information available about it at the moment.

Last year’s main entry to the series, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag garnered immense critical acclaim for its familiar yet refreshing offerings which were brilliantly infused into the pirates setting. The series has come a long way since its debut back in 2007. Six main games and ten accompanying titles have been released under it, and the franchise has even treaded more territory by means of novels, comics and more.
