First details about next-gen Hitman game emerge

Now that the ambiguity regarding the existence of a next-gen Hitman title has been put to rest, fans of the immensely popular stealth game series can breathe easy. As a treat to them furthermore, the Io-Interactive team has issued an open letter detailing some of the features which will be making their way into the game. However, there’s still no word on when it will be released, or on whether or not it will be out this year.

Hitman

The letter informs us that the new Hitman game will have Agent 47 ‘stalking his prey across the world’ which is a departure from the America-only setting of Hitman Absolution. His handler Diana Burnwood as well as the whole of the ICA will form part of the story as well. Io-Interactive has said that the upcoming game is being built on the Glacier 2 engine with the best parts from Hitman: Absolution as well as other past titles from the ace series.

‘Extreme level of detail,’ ‘exotic locations around the world’ and ‘largest levels we have ever built for a Hitman game’ are some of the statements made regarding the title in the letter. More importantly, it has come to fore an ‘open, non-linear level design approach’ has been taken by the developers for this game. The huge levels will be checkpoint-free and sandbox in nature of course. The Contracts mode from Absolution will be making a return, providing gamers with tools to craft their own assassination contracts and post them on the Internet for others to try out.

Lastly, fans can rest assured that magic pockets won’t form part of the next-gen Hitman game.
