GTA V leaks leave Rockstar ‘deeply disappointed,’ Sony apologizes

The release of GTA V is set to be a massive spectacle, and sometimes fans aren’t able to properly handle the anticipation leading up to such occurrences. A major leak has managed to plague the GTA title weeks before its official release date approaches, leaving story spoilers and soundtrack details to be channeled onto the Internet. This has happened due to Sony Europe having let players preload the title beforehand, following which some hackers cracked the files open to extract the information.

Sony has therefore issued an apology to Rockstar through its official PlayStation blog, and has acted by taking down the preloading functionality for GTA V immediately. The company has a policy of letting gamers download encrypted copies of games they pre-order, so they wouldn’t have to wait that long to download the entire title once it releases, as only a small file to remove the encryption will need to be acquired then.

While the process was going smoothly, some hackers decided to have a peek at the encryption, and found that it could be easily bypassed. They then got to haul out crucial spoiler-filled information from the various files of GTA V. And while Sony has issued an apology now, Rockstar has too has released a statement on the matter. The company says that it is ”˜deeply disappointed’ by all the GTA V leaks and spoilers, as the game represents years of hard work by many people across the world.

GTA V is slated to be launched for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 17 worldwide, and as for its PC version, there’s still a lot of drama surrounding it.
