Darksiders II Leaves Out Multiplayer Mode

Developer Vigil Games has confirmed that Darksiders II, a ‘parallel sequel’ to last year’s popular action adventure game won’t be having a multiplayer mode. Looks like fans of the franchise might have to wait for the third edition of the game in order to experience online play. The decision came apparently due to shortage of resources.

Darksiders II

Marvin Donald, Director, Vigil Games, told IGN, “When we put together the pitch for Darksiders 1, we wanted it to be multiplayer then. It’s just too much work when you’re starting a brand new studio with a new [intellectual property] and you’re building your own technology. We’re also evolving the series into more of [a role-playing game], which was something else we wanted to do from the beginning, but we just didn’t have the resources or time or money to do it the first time around and do it justice.”

Donald also indicated that the reason behind this exclusion could be the fact that the two characters War in the first game and Death in the sequel have about 800 to 1000 animations in them. And due to both of them having different proportions it’s not viable to share animations across the characters. He also went on to mention that the decision to include the multiplayer feature in the third edition of the title will depend upon, ‘the resources that are available, the size of the budget and whether or not Darksiders II does well.’

Well, it’s for time to tell what third edition will be like. But for now the news about Darksiders II giving the multiplayer mode a skip stands its ground. The game is expected to come out next year.
