Developer Capcom has disclosed that it will be releasing the Devil May Cry HD Collection in North America next year for the PS3 and Xbox 360. This bundle is to include the first three original titles – Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2 and Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening Special Edition, which have been re-mastered in high-definition.
The franchise is known for its intense hack and slash action involving Dante, whose sole aim is to avenge his mother’s murder by eliminating the demons. This successful series in claimed by Capcom to have sold more than 10 million units worldwide. Apart from improved graphics, the Devil May Cry HD Collection would also comprise bonus content alongside Trophy and Achievement support for respective platforms.
Devil May Cry was released in 2001 for the PS2 and although it’s the first game in the franchise, its events are second in the storyline’s chronological order. Son to a human mother and a devil father named Sparda, the half-demon Dante is required to use his inherent abilities and the powers of ancient demons to fight against the forces of darkness.
Second in line was Devil May Cry 2 which debuted in 2003, also for the PS2. This sequel is set in the fictional city of Vie de Marli and entails Dante and his counterpart Lucia, as they fight to stop a businessman from raising the demon Argosax and achieving supreme power. This title also featured an updated control scheme.
Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening Special Edition includes all the gameplay changes and additional content which were added to the title later on. This game acts as a prequel to the original Devil May Cry and was launched in 2005 for the PS3 and PC.
Capcom is yet to reveal the final release date of its Devil May Cry HD Collection which his planned to hit North American stores in 2012. This pack is supposed to retail at a price of 39.99 USD (approx. Rs. 1,957).
