PS3 EDF: Insect Armageddon Co-op Mode, Arsenal Detailed

Turning another leaf in its fight against hordes of insects, the Earth Defense Force series will soon unleash a new narrative on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Announced back in September 2010, the next installment is said to continue from where the previous iteration namely EDF 2017’s storyline left. A post on the official PlayStation blog has revealed that this new chapter dubbed EDF: Insect Armageddon will support three-player co-op and six-player Survival Mode on the PSN.

Revelations state that while this title takes the EDF 2017 tale forward, it displays refined co-op and armory system. In the game, Earth comes into trouble as an insectoid race referred to as The Ravagers land on this planet for annihilating mankind. During such tumultuous times, players can step into the shoes of Strike Force Lighting’s leader to guide the army against the invading gang. To add vigor into this battleground, the game sports split screen co-op that allows around three players to enter an online combat through the PlayStation Network.

As members of the elite EDF squad, gamers will be presented with over 300 unlockable weapons and four upgradable armor types. According to the post, the developer has engineered the arsenal in such a fashion so as to yield an intense yet fun experience for players. Varied shot patterns, spreads as well as visual and sound effects have been incorporated while designing the weaponry. Some more advanced weapons have been wrapped into two DLC packs which will be extended to gamers who pre-order the title from Best Buy or GameStop.

The first add-on entitled Death From Above can be procured by booking a copy of the game from Best Buy stores. The pack comprises new weapons for the Jet Armor whereas the second bundle namely Pounds of Pain will be offered to players pre-ordering the title from GameStop. The latter has been packed with a brand new Battle Armor including the RLF-17 Floorboard Rocket Launcher and the five-shot-spread rocker launcher, the Grimhegern Splitzer B.

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon will hit stores on July 5, 2011 with a price tag of 39.95 USD (approx. Rs. 1,806).
