Traversing time and location to fight a new battle in modern-day Afghanistan, Medal of Honor incorporates rock acoustics from one of the biggest bands. Grammy award winning Linkin Park has agreed to headline the in-game soundtrack with the lead song from their latest album ‘A Thousand Suns’, EA has announced. The track dubbed as ‘The Catalyst’ will splash the trailer of the action video game with stunning live footage and severe modern military action from the title.
Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive, Music and Music Marketing, EA, commented, “Medal of Honor marks the beginning of an innovative new relationship between EA and Linkin Park. I’ve personally known the band since 1999, and they have always been an intensely creative group who understand the power of videogames and have wanted to explore and expand the medium’s possibilities. ‘The Catalyst’ is one of the most anticipated tracks of the year, and the combination of this new song and Joe Hahn’s distinctive visual dynamic re-sets the bar in our commitment to bringing together landmark EA games with artists whose talents go far beyond music.”
The title leaves its World War II scenario for the first time in 11 years to find a new fighting ground on the eastern side of the planet. The narrative comes from a small group of imaginary characters. Introducing gamers to an elite warrior, Tier 1 Operator, and a mysterious instrument of the US Military that works under the National Command Authority, Medal of Honor promises to infuse an all new-experience for their fans.
“This is a unique, creative association for us and a collaboration that we are excited about,” elucidated Joe Hahn, Director of the game’s trailer and DJ for Linkin Park. “The opportunity to help introduce “The Catalyst” via the new Medal of Honor game creates a new bond between EA, our fans, and the band’s overall vision for the new digital frontier. We are enormously proud of the music on A Thousand Suns and are excited to have created an exclusive trailer around the lead track.”
Directed by the band’s DJ Joe Hahn, the trailer will initiate a new relationship between the world of rock music and the gaming community. The promo will be released exclusively on the game’s official website on August 1, 2010 while the song will hit radio, iTunes and other media on the following day. A Thousand Suns has been scheduled for a September 14, 2010 release.
Published by EA, Medal of Honor will be available for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC gamers in the UK from October 15, 2010. We’ve not yet heard the title’s official pricing details from the company.
