I Am Alive developer Darkworks shaken off project by Ubisoft

I Am Alive! Sounds a bit like I Am Legend, doesn’t it? Well, it is similar in the fact that it is a disaster survival game. I Am Alive was announced at Ubisoft’s E3 2008 conference and was anticipated for a spring 2009 release. But due to delays and complications the game was pushed back to the financial year that ends March 2010.

I Am Alive

Based in Chicago after a major earthquake has ripped apart the city, I Am Alive follows Adam through a land decimated. The game is said to be more oriented towards problem solving and character interaction and players must take destiny-altering decisions. Ubisoft has yanked the game from under the feet of original developer Darkworks and will now continue development in-house. Ubisoft has, apparently, already been working with Ubisoft Shanghai on I Am Alive, a studio that will now complete the game.

A statement from Ubisoft reads something like, “In order to respect the new launch date for this ambitious title, and Darkworks having other obligations, we have mutually decided to complete development of I Am Alive at Ubisoft Shanghai, as the two studios have collaborated on aspects of the title over the past year.”

I Am Alive 2

It seems like the recent movies such as I Am Legend, 28 Weeks Later and Cloverfield have caught on, although if I Am Alive was based in Seattle, Washington, that that would be something! I Am Alive will release for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PCs running Windows.
