Game Development Deal Terminated by EA, Marvel

Marvel Entertainment has lots of intellectual properties that can be developed into video games and they had even signed a deal with Electronic Arts (EA). However, things haven’t gone smoothly, it seems. Now GameTap is reporting that Marvel and EA have ended the agreement to make games based on their IP.

The scrapping of the deals seems mutual. A representative from Electronic Arts explains, “EA and Marvel have jointly agreed to discontinue development of the Marvel titles under the EA Games Label. This was a business decision based on EA’s portfolio strategy.”

The agreement between the comic giant and EA seemed to be a match made in heaven as they could make new characters that can be included in the video game titles and Marvel would have the liberty to do spin-offs, most probably comic books. The contract was first announced in 2004.

Though there are speculations that Kudo Tsunoda’s departure from EA could have influenced it. He was the head of EA Chicago. Just last year, it was announced that EA Chicago was working in a Marvel game.
