Battlefield Heroes Pushed To 2009 by EA

The closed beta of Battlefield Heroes, the free-to-play cartoon-styled shooter game has been temporarily shut down and Electronic Arts reveals the beta version is up for retooling. The company mentioned that the backend of the casual online game needs some further development.

EA DICE senior producer James Salt had this to say about Battlefield Heroes:

“You know the old saying about icebergs being 10 percent above water, and 90 percent below. Heroes is a little like that. There’s the 10 percent game part you can see, and the hiding 90 percent is what we call the backend. The backend does a lot of things. From running the website’s features and looking after the items you have, to collecting the results from each Heroes game and matchmaking players into games.”

Well the bad news isn’t over yet. Not only has Battlefield Heroes gone offline, but it also won’t be open until early next year. As of now the game is apparently in its testing period. The game had already been shut down at 6pm yesterday. According to Salt, the title still has to undergo a lot of work mainly some final polishes.

The next beta of Battlefield Heroes is expected to be running in early 2009. Though there’s no clear picture on whether or not the next beta phase would also be closed or open to the public, it will certainly delay the release of the action packed game.
