Saints Row was a great game for the Xbox 360, well, only if you believe Microsoft! Now we have THQ, who has sent word that they are coming up with a sequel, which is aptly titled, Saints Row 2.
The game is expected to have expanded customization options, a totally transformed and expanded city of Stilwater. Along with all this, Saints Row 2 will also feature all new vehicles, sandbox tools and toys as well as both online co-op and competitive multiplayer.
Greg Donovan, lead producer, Volition says, “Saints Row 2 has a much darker and more sinister story that leads your character down a path of betrayal, revenge and redemption against the city that has left him for dead, although we have blended that with the same light-hearted humor from the original. Couple that with the most robust open-world feature set ever developed in the genre, and Saints Row 2 promises a gaming experience that will present players the ideal balance of fascinating narrative and compelling gameplay options.”
Scott Guthrie is the executive vice president of sales and marketing at THQ. He explains, “Saints Row set the bar for next-gen open-world development, earning praise for its supreme customization, controls, and the genre’s first-ever online multiplayer. The team at Volition, Inc. is leveraging invaluable experience gained on Saints Row to make Saints Row 2 into a game that sets the standard for combat, player freedom, customization, vehicle game-play, team-based co-op and the most compelling online open world experience to date.”
Saints Row 2 is being developed by THQ internal studio Volition. They are making use of their proprietary open-world engine. The game is all set to release next year on the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Saints Row was touted to be a GTA killer, but it didn’t live up to the name. However, we will have to wait till 2008 to see how the Saints Row 2 turns out.
