NPD Data: COD 4 Best Selling Game in November

The NPD data is finally out and lots of things have emerged! Figures from the global market research company indicate that Call of Duty 4 is the best selling game in November in the United States. The data also shows that the games industry sales in the US hit $2.63 billion in November, which means it has increased by 52 per cent.

The Nintendo Wii shifted around 981,000 units while Microsoft managed to sell 770,000 units of their Xbox 360 consoles with Sony coming in third by selling 466,000 units of the PS3. The Nintendo DS, as usual sold the highest number of consoles as around 1.53 million units of the handheld were shifted. Sony’s other consoles didn’t do that bad as the PS2 shifted 496,000 units while around 567,000 PSP consoles were sold.

Anita Frazier is an analyst with NPD. She explained, “The Wii had its best-selling month yet, besting last December by 60 per cent. The Nintendo DS and Xbox 360 both realized their second best sales months yet, after December of last year. The combination of the price cut and seasonal lift gave the PS3 the biggest October to November sales increase of any hardware platform.”

The software sales did pretty well too as it accounted for $1.3 billion with the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 4 being the top game in November 2007 while Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii came second. Assassin’s Creed, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Wii Play were the other games that were in the top five.
