GRAW 2 Condemned by Mexican Mayor

One more Tom Clancy game is rebuked by a high-profile government official. Héctor Murguía, mayor of Mexican town Juárez has come out and reviled the new Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 game by Ubisoft. The first person shooter which is set in the Mexican towns of El Paso and Juárez, shows fictional battles between an elite U.S. military unit and Mexican rebels in the borderland.

Héctor Murguía said, “Violent video games encourage values which are upside down, and these actions are despicable because they attempt to divide the good will of the residents of American and Mexican cities.”

Earlier in 2004, Ghost Recon 2 was loathed by the North Korean government while Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas was attacked by Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman, who felt that the game could be “economically harmful” to his city. However, Héctor Murguía’s comments are justified to some extent. Getting angry on a game that shows a particular nationality or a race as villains is alright, but blaming video games for violence is simply ignorance.
