There was a lot of speculation last week when Square Enix had registered a new title. Now it is confirmed that the game is ‘The Last Remnant’. It will be a role-playing game that will release for the next-gen consoles simultaneously in Japan and the United States in 2008.
The Last Remnant will be designed on the Unreal Engine 3 and will be directed by Hiroshi Takai. The game will have main characters that have been designed in an exceptional way. The story line of The Last Remnant has two main characters, Rush Sykes and The Conqueror. It centers around Rush’s sister, who is captured by a group of outsiders. Rush takes helps from the Remnants. The Remnants are the magical people of a previous time. He also encounters ‘The Conqueror’ during the quest to free his sister.
Takai has previously worked on Fantasy XI, Saga Frontier, and Final Fantasy V. He said, “From the conceptual stage of this project, we kept a global market in mind, placing a special emphasis on the North American market.”
The Last Remnant will also have the Square-Enix turn-based battle system. The game is expected in spring 2008. More details of the game will be released by Square Enix at the Final Fantasy party on May 12 and 13.
