Gears of War changed the way gamers looked at third-person shooters. The game was received phenomenally well all over the world including India, where it has become a cult hit. It is surprising as before the game was released, console gaming wasn’t that popular in the country.
Be it the United States, UK or India, Microsoft has a reputation of heavily marketing its gaming products, especially their blockbuster games. Last year, they heavily promoted Halo 3 for the Xbox 360 by a holding gala event in Mumbai. This year too, an important game will be out for the Xbox 360. Microsoft has left no stone unturned to promote Gears of War 2, the sequel to the original game that was released a couple of years ago.
Microsoft India held an event to launch Gears of War 2 in India. The gamers’ party was held at a nightclub in central Mumbai. The bash saw the presence of the members of the media as well as some lucky gamers. Gears of War 2 will be released in India on November 7, 2008, the same day it releases all over the world!
The Gears of War 2 party was attended by the national marketing manager of the entertainment and devices division of Microsoft India, Ashim Mathur. He showcased a video of Gears of War 2 and then welcomed everyone to play the game. The club was splattered with the Crimson Omen we have to say! Gears of War insignia was all over the place.
There were Xbox 360 consoles setups for gamers to preview Gears of War 2. Well, we did play the game. Though we would love to tell you about it, we can’t since the members of the media were made to sign a non-disclosure agreement. All we can say is the graphics of Gears of War 2 are better than the original game.
We had a word with a couple of gamers over there who seemed pretty excited about the shooter. Besides the gamers, Ashim Mathur too was excited. Mathur had to say this about Gears of War 2:
“We are very thrilled about Gears of War 2 and this gamer night is to give our gaming fans an unparalleled entertainment experience with this new title. The sequel to a great franchise, Gears of War 2 is packed with new features and better controls. From what I’ve seen so far the chainsaw duels and new weapons are my personal favorites from the game. Gears of War 2 is another perfect example of Microsoft bringing the best games to the country and the games work very well with our gamer night idea.”
Well, the Gears of War 2 India launch party seemed pretty cool as they had bought props from the game. They got a Lancer for the Gears! Yes, you read it right! Everyone seemed excited by it and we also got to lay our hands on it. We can say that it was more impressive than the previous Marcus Fenix.
We also had a word with Ashim Mathur about Gears of War 2 and it seems that they are expecting fifty percent more sales on this one, compared to the original game. We asked Mathur about Gears of War 2 Xbox 360 bundles in India but the reply was negative. When we queried to the Microsoft India executive about the PC version of Gears of War 2, his response was a firm, ‘No Comment’. Speaking about PC gaming, Ashim Mathur has assured the PC gamers in India that there will be something or the other coming up.
