Rockford is back and all geared up to counter falling rocks, go through magic walls and fight fireflies in the latest edition of a classic game from the 80s. Boulder Dash XL is slated to be available on Xbox Live next month while a PC release is planned for later this season.
The title features the same retro gameplay which requires players to eliminate enemies, avoid traps and collect diamonds while racing against the clock. Four new game modes – Puzzle, Zen, Time Challenge and Retro apart from the Arcade will be offered by the Live version.
New gameplay elements like the telescopic arm, speed-ups, heavy boulders and teleporters are also introduced through the game. Apart from that, additional enemies with their own distinctive behavior make their way into this title. For a more immersive experience, players can pan/scroll the playfield when paused.
There are over 150 caves within the four worlds in this game’s 3D environment. Beside Rockford, gamers can also assume the role of his female counterpart, Crystal. Online ranking lists / leaderboards are available for players to boast their high scores.
Boulder Dash XL will be available on Xbox Live from 13th July, 2011 for 800 Microsoft Points.
