2K signs Alex Ovechkin as Cover Athlete for NHL 2K10

Recently we saw LA Laker, Kobe Bryant signed up as cover athlete for NBA 2K10. Now game publisher 2K Sports has announced the signing of Washington Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin as the cover athlete of NHL 2K10. The left winger, nicknamed ‘Ovi’ was also named spokesperson, for the game which is a follow up to last year’s NHL 2K9.

Ovechkin has been the highest scorer in NHL for two consecutive seasons. He has also won numerous accolades like the 2009 Maurice “Rocket” Richard Award and is a finalist for the Memorial Hart Trophy 2009. An excited Ovechkin exclaimed, “It’s a good time to be Ovi! It’s an incredible honour, and I look forward to working with 2K Sports to make NHL 2K10 the most fun and amazing hockey video game experience ever. I can’t wait to put some of my moves in there.”

To celebrate the collaboration, Ovechkin participated in a motion capture event at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas. The event which was open to the public, had the game producers put ‘Ovi’ through a series of drills so as to help them accurately replicate his style of play in the video game.

NHL 2K10 is developed by Visual Concepts and 2K Sports plans to release it sometime in autumn of 2009. The game is for the Wii, PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms while prices are yet to be announced.
