Massively multiplayer online games have always been made for the PC platform but gaming companies also started making MMOs for the consoles. But these were home consoles. Not many thought that handheld consoles can also be a platform for massively multiplayer online games. But Sony Online Entertainment seems to think otherwise as they are planning a PSP MMO.
The MTV Multiplayer blog is reporting that John Smedley, the head of SOE said, “We started to get very interested in (the PSP) when we switched over from Sony Pictures to Sony Computer Entertainment back in April. And as we’ve kind of got our heads up looking around the world within Sony Computer Entertainment, we’re really starting to see a big push for PSP. We think it’s a world-class device… In the future, we see full MMOs that are designed for the PSP.”
John Smedley had earlier pointed out that Sony’s handheld gaming console had sold some 34 million units all over the world and then said that they are all connected. The SOE head also said they might even come up with PSP mini-games that gamers can play on the bus stop.
