Terraria goes mobile, coming to Android, iOS, WP soon

Indie wonder Terraria it seems, is going the Bastion and Plants vs. Zombies way, for it is spreading its wings across one platform after another. Just announced to have been slated to hit mobile platforms like Android, iOS and Windows Phone, it has already been made available through PSN and Xbox Live, following its 2011 debut on PC. Moreover, it is also being prepped up for a PS Vita release later this year.

Rocket Riot-developer Codeglue, will be porting this game onto the new platforms, announced its original creator, Re-Logic recently. The mobile versions of this much acclaimed action-adventure role-playing game is set to feature a completely new control scheme to suit the touch-based interface that Android, iOS and Windows Phone devices have on offer. Moreover, a change in the title’s balance has also been announced for form part of it.

Support for leaderboards and achievements will be added as well. And players looking forward can even expect Facebook integration to be there for the sharing of screenshots. Apart from mobile platforms, this game will be released for the PS Vita later in 2013. The porting duties of this version are being handled by Engine Software.

The game first came out on PC in May 2011, and was quick to sell 50,000 copies on its opening day itself. And in the opening week alone, it had managed to trade off more than 200,000 copies worldwide, making it the top-selling game on Steam for the week, beating the likes of Witcher 2 and Portal 2. It was only in March this year that its versions for PSN and Xbox Live were launched by 505 Games.

Equipped with a 16-bit art style, it lets players explore the environments of a randomly generated sandbox world. It features building mechanics as well, and hence, is more often than not also compared with Minecraft. Single-player, multiplayer as well as cooperative gameplay is available to be indulged in.

Terraria should be hitting mobile platforms soon, but those who can’t wait till then can head over to Steam, and snap it up for 9.99 USD (approx. Rs. 565). As for the console versions, they are available at 14.99 USD (approx. Rs. 850) or 1,200 Microsoft Points.
