WCG 2006 India gets a shot in its leg even before the Event

A week ago, we had reported on the schedule of World Cyber Games 2006, the biggest gaming tournament around. Well, today we have some bad news for the gamers residing in Cochin, Calcutta, Jaipur and Chennai.

Cochin, Jaipur, Calcutta and Chennai have been thrown out from the tournament. We wonder why?

WCG India 2006 It seems like every year one or two venues are removed off the schedule, at the very last minute by Indiagames who are the official organizers for the Indian counterpart of the World Cyber Games 2006. What we did hear is that Samsung, who are the official sponsors of the WCG India 2006 made the call to exclude these four venues.

One would be surprised at the amount of gamers who live in every nook and corner of India. It may be a common notion that “gamers” would exist in only the huge metropolises of India. Contrary to that, a lot of youngsters would kill to participate in the WCG 2006 with the grand prize being a huge, and when I say huge I mean a really huge amount of money! But they will be furious now, hearing the news that they do not even have a chance to participate in the WCG 2006 India.

Are you ready for another piece of not-so-good news? Ok, here it is, but it isn’t as bad as being taken out from the tournament without a reason. The registration fee for the World Cyber Games 2006 has now been hiked up to Rs.100 per participant from Rs.50. Does this price hike mean that there is a shortage of sponsors, or is it that the organizers of WCG India want to profit from the popularity of the already famous World Cyber Games, which is held every year and is meant to bring the most hardcore gamers together for a grand fight?
