Doom 4: The Best FPS Game Ever Made?

Id’s Rage is yet to spew its guts over current generation technology, but it seems their next project is already being pushed forward as the game that will plausibly turn the cogs of the first person shooter genre. The team that is crafting out this monstrosity included Michael Dickheiser, responsible for crafting out “13 Unreal 2.5 and 3.0 based R&D projects for a variety of government and private agencies/organizations spanning the military, medical, and space/science training realms.”

These organizations include the United States Army and NASA. This individual concerned was working with id Software and was the lead programmer in Doom 4 and was also working on novel AI systems and a modified engine of id-tech 5 which would suit the constructions of the Doom universe. All this work was undertaken to craft out and execute the best FPS ever made.

Doom 4 is still being kept a rather hushed up project till the arrival of Rage, but work already seem to be heavily underway on the project for a year as seen. Hopefully more information should come by next year which already seems to be clogged with its fair share of highly anticipated titles.

The company seems to be taking a different root with almost all its games so far. Wolfenstien added pretty nifty ideas to make the gameplay experience a less linear as a normal shooter would have been considered. It seems with this project the company looks to take the normal conception of Doom into a much grittier and authentic presentation of a war with aliens from a mysterious planet.

First of all, the monsters are demons, not aliens. Second, they’re from hell, not another planet. Not that we have gotten that out of the way, I can’t wait to see what Doom 4 will be like. It has already been said that this Doom will be more action oriented rather than survival horror like Doom 3 was. In an interview with a mo-cap actor, the actor said that we’re dealing with a post apocalyptic event where the military and civilians are fighting for there survival. Most likely this Doom will take place on Earth and you will probably have some friends to fight along side at times.

    Zach,

Technically they are right, Doom 3 was based on Mars. Even if the portal was to hell it can be argued that it is Mars’ Hell, not Earths and as such the Demon’s are extra-terrestial.
