Mister Slime for Nintendo DS to be Released in North America by SouthPeak Games

Last week we had reported that SouthPeak Games had unveiled X-Blades, an anime style hack and slash game. Now SouthPeak has sent word that they will be releasing the action adventure game Mister Slime for the Nintendo DS in North America. It includes clever elastic controls that make good use of handheld’s distinctive features.

The game sees players take the role of young but resolute hero Mister Slime, who is on a mission to protect Slime Village from its evil enemies, the Axons. Gamers can navigate the levels by making use of the touch screen and stylus as they drag and stretch Mister Slime’s arms to grasp small anchor points speckled throughout the game. Also, the game has ingenious uses of characteristics specific to Nintendo DS, including sound and shape recognition.

Djamil Kemal, Development Director, Lexis Numérique says, “We wanted to take an old-school 2D side-scroller and update it with innovative features and gameplay specific to the platform. The advanced physics engine combined with elasticity, and interaction with many different objects creates a very engaging gameplay experience. There is nothing else out there like it.”

Katie Morgan is the executive vice president of SouthPeak Games. She explains, “Fresh, tactile, fun, and addictive. That is what Mister Slime is all about. The title’s creative features, imaginative characters, and grand storyline make for a crazy, one-of-a-kind, can’t-put-it-down gameplay experience. Mister Slime is awesome right from the get-go.”

Mister Slime for the Nintendo DS has been developed by Lexis Numérique. It will be released in North America in April 2008. The game has both single and multiplayer game modes and gamers can expect an enormous range of level design. This is not the first time that SouthPeak has worked on a handheld game. A few months ago, they had revealed details about The Con for the Sony PSP.
