Warner Bros. Games and its Harry Potter games-focused label Portkey Games have announced that Hogwarts Legacy has been met with a delay. The Harry Potter-spinoff that’s being developed by Avalanche Software will now be released in 2022. The studio had first displayed this title at last year’s PS5 showcase, where it was revealed to be a multi-platform affair for old-gen as well as new-gen consoles, apart from PC.
The game’s makers wrote on Twitter, “We would like to thank fans from around the world on the tremendous reaction to the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy from our Portkey Games label. Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us so we are giving the game the time it needs. Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022.”
Hogwarts Legacy has been revealed to be an action-RPG that will follow a student’s journey through Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They will be able to attend classes, learn spells, boil potions, tame magical beasts, and much more. Although, don’t expect to have a run-in with known characters like Harry Potter or Newt Scamander, since the game is set during the 1800s.
The developers have announced that it will be an open-world affair, complete with access to famed locations like Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village. Some kind of morality system has also been revealed to form part of the game. Unlike other Wizarding World offshoots, this game is not being developed in consultation with franchise-creator J.K. Rowling, as has been confirmed by Warner Bros.
The first trailer for Hogwarts Legacy, which was released in September last year, can be spotted in the space above. We’ll have more on it when further details are revealed.
