New 3D South Park Game Is Under Development

South Park

It’s all over the news that South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have signed a $900 million deal with Viacom for multiple projects that will span six years. Among those projects is an unannounced South Park video game that’s uncharacteristically 3D in nature.

What’s interesting is that the two creators won’t be outsourcing its development to Ubisoft studios this time. The 3D South Park game is supposed to be developed internally by an in-house team. Nothing apart from this is known about this upcoming video game though.

As per Bloomberg, the $900 million that Stone and Parker will receive from the deal with go towards creating the next six seasons of South Park as well as fourteen made-for-streaming Paramount+ movies that will “expand on the existing world.”

The modern South Park gaming template has resulted in two AAA RPGs with turn-based combat. The first among the two games came out in 2014 in the form of South Park: The Stick of Truth, while the second one was released in 2017 as South Park: The Fractured but Whole.

Both the games, which have you playing as the New Kid who interacts with regular characters from the South Park universe, were released by Ubisoft. While the first one was developed by Fallout: New Vegas vets Obsidian Entertainment, the second one was created by Ubisoft San Francisco.

With more than 300 episodes released so far via 23 seasons, South Park remains one of the most popular TV shows of all time. During the pandemic, the makers released two extremely well-received specials that were focused on COVID-19 and related vaccinations.

We’ll have more on the upcoming 3D South Park video game when newer details about it are out.
